The range of early spring colors in Skye, earth tones, prismatic greens and warm reds, the pop of lilac, bright yellows and cornflower blue surprised us beyond all expectation. My travelling companion, watercolorist Laura Starrett, created multiple landscape color grid studies, some entirely of one color range like the greens, to capture the complexity and nuances of light and pigments vibrating before us. Visit Laura’s blog to enjoy her Scottish studies and process notes, and her luminous watercolors.

I think all of them are wonderful but in particular the first. Cloudy sky separated from the sheen of water and then muddy beach.
