I’ve driven past hundreds of times, in all light and weather, trying to catch what this old roadhouse is mumbling. Yesterday I thought someone, maybe a country workcrew had sprayed the grass in front with fluorescent blue paint. When I stopped later that afternoon and walked up close, the blue revealed itself to be wild violets. Like a chunk of the sky blow down at the feet of this abandoned dream. Madison WI’s Overture Center reminds me of a smaller scale version of NYC’s Guggenheim Museum. The shell-like spiral staircase and open atrium are irresistible to the lens. Quick post this morning, additional images to come:

Warm weather finally has the SW Wisconsin rural landscape stretching out and awakening after a long, frigid winter’s hibernation. There is a particular kind of washed clean, sharp feel to the air, and the landscape’s earth toned color palette and bare lines offers an austere, unadorned vision. a pure line of sight. Hope and endurance speak as the earth’s still bare bones warm.

Arctic Sunrise at 20 below, Wisconsin

-20 below zero on the thermometer this morning, but look at the kind of sunrise we get. This shot was actually take earlier this month at -25 below. G4 phone camera so depth of field’s lacking and not so sure now about the  throwback frame. Meh. But both the sunrise and sunsets we’ve been getting in this bitter weather have been knock-you-over beautiful. Crystalline cold clear air and sun at a low angle.

Quicksnap with G4 phone during my evening walk yesterday when our air temperatures climbed briefly into the high 20s, before beginning their arctic descent.  -25 overnight with windchills to -50 through Tuesday. Upside is that the photogenic blanket of snow will be sustained and hoarfrost ice crystal formations are imminent, especially when fogs roll in as temperatures climb 40 degrees into mid 30s by this weekend. Patiently waiting & editing now while Mama Nature sets her stage
